USA to Canada Customs

What is this?

The USA to Canada Customs block provides the ability to identify parties involved in the shipment, and send details required by Canada Customs to transport shipments in bond and expedite customs clearance.

When is it used?

Required for all shipments originating or transiting the United States destined to Canada for consumption or for furtherance to another country.

The following information can be provided in this block:

Information Required Notes
Via highway from United States to Canada Optional Allows you to indicate if the shipment will cross the border via truck. No other customs information can be entered if this box is checked and the "Intermodal" block must be present with either "Door to door" or "Door to ramp" service types selected.
Country of Origin of Goods Optional Origin of the product being shipped.
Export Declaration Numbers Optional See below *
Customs Broker Required Party handling the customs clearance.
Canadian Bond Destination Code Optional A four-digit CBSA designated port code where release/acquittal will be affected.
Sub-Location Code Optional A four-digit code which identifies the location of goods within a sufferance warehouse.
Importer Optional Party arranging the shipment importation.
CSA: Importers Business Number Optional Required for customer self-assessment.
Beneficial Owner Optional Legal owner of the shipment.
Ultimate Consignee Optional Final party to receive the shipment.
Total Value of Goods Optional Shipment value for customs.
Additional Customs Information Optional Additional information needed for customs.

By selecting "US Census Post Departure Filing Number" as your Export Declaration Number, you will need to provide the specific number format as indicated on the right. Format is:

By selecting "US Census Internal Transaction Number (ITN)" as your Export Declaration Number, you will need to provide the specific number format as indicated on the right. Format is:
XYYYYMMDDNNNNNN

Where:
X --> x or X
YYYYMMDD --> Year, month, day. Cannot be in the future.
N --> number 0-9

Cargo Control Numbers (Less than Load)

Allows users (with this role) to provide up to 500 Cargo Control Numbers for Loaded Intermodal Shipments which are originating in USA and destined to Canada. This block will be enabled when the following conditions are met

When the following conditions are met, the Cargo Control Numbers (Less than Load) fields within the USA - Canada customs block will be displayed when:

  1. Shipment must originate in USA and be destined to Canada
  2. Pattern / Draft contains the Intermodal and USA-Canada Customs Block
  3. Must be for a loaded shipment
  4. Intermodal Block must contain the Service Type to properly determine the origin/destination of the shipment.
  5. Must be for a single container.

Cargo Control Numbers can be provided by:

  1. Inputting the values in the USA to Canada block in the Cargo Control Number field
  2. Copy/Paste
  3. Upload

Accepted file formats for Upload:

  • .CSV
  • .TXT
  • .XLS
  • .XLSX

Note: For Copy/Paste and Upload the Cargo Control Numbers must be separated by either:

  • Colon
  • Semi-Colon
  • Carriage Return/Linefeed
