Tracing by VIN

What is this?

The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is a 17-position code unique to an automobile or light truck. An example is: JM1BJ22221M410221.

 

How is it used?

You may enter up to 150 VINs at a time. Separate VINs with a space, comma, semicolon, or carriage return. Values are interpreted as entered.

The last 8 positions of the full VIN are considered the serial number, and are an easier way to enter values. The Serial Number in the example VIN above is: 1M410221.

Cut and Paste

The input area may be populated by pasting data into it from another application such as a spreadsheet or internal system.

Procedure

Highlight and copy IDs from any application that supports cut and paste.

Select Copy from the <Edit> menu to place the data on the system clipboard. Then, click the mouse on the input box and choose <Paste> from the <Edit> menu. The contents of the clipboard will be pasted into the input box.

Caution: be sure to remove all characters, numbers, and special characters that are not part of the Equipment ID or they will be included in the trace resulting in a meaningless response.
