Selecting the Response Type

What is this?

The response type selection determines how the query results will be returned to you.

Browser

The query response is displayed in your browser. Once displayed you can print it.

PDF

This option will open your response in a PDF file which can be saved on your computer or printed. The information will be the same offered in the Browser format. In order to open a .pdf file, you'll need the free Acrobat Reader plugin from Adobe.

Spreadsheet

This option will save a copy of the response on your computer, or you can configure your browser to automatically launch the spreadsheet when the file is downloaded.

The spreadsheet format has the following characteristics:

  • Is comma delimited (.csv file), for use in Excel, Quattro, Access, etc.
  • Contains a header record (labels for the columns, each separated by a comma) followed by detail record(s) with data for each record requested
  • Values are enclosed in double quotes (") to ensure accuracy of the data interpretation
  • Time values are displayed in Serial Date/Time -- a decimal number representing the date and time. This allows Excel, Access, Quattro, and Paradox to properly interpret dates for local formatting according to your computer's settings, and to allow easy date/time comparisons
Serial Date Explanation

The serial date is the number of days and fractions (precision to 8 decimal points) of days from December 30, 1899 23:59:59.
Note: Excel identifies a January 1, 1900 starting date, however calculates the number of days incorrectly so the result is the same.

To make the serial dates work you must have the following settings within your application:

  • Excel: 1900 Date Format
  • Windows: Number Separator as a period (.)
